Online Desk:
Critical weather situation in much of Italy: in the last 24 hours, very intense rainfall has been measured in Liguria , between 150 and 200 mm throughout the hinterland, as reported by Arpal. Consequently, there were worrying increases, even if within the warning limits, of Aveto, Trebbia and Entella. Particular attention was paid to the entire course of the Vara and Magra.
The rain is also accompanied by very strong winds , with gusts of 142 km/h in Casoni di Suvero and 116 km/h in La Spezia. The intense storm on the Ligurian coasts will continue until tomorrow: at the moment waves with a significant height of 6.5 meters have been recorded in La Spezia and with a time interval between one peak and another of more than 11 seconds. Precisely due to a strong sea storm, state road 1 “Via Aurelia” at km 475.300 between Sestri Levante and Lavagna, in the province of Genoa, was temporarily closed to traffic. The measure was adopted to protect traffic along that stretch of road.
Meanwhile, Anas has made it known that due to the weather emergency in central and northern Italy, caused by cyclone Ciaran, “in these hours of maximum criticality the operations centers, active 24 hours a day, are carrying out a continuous exchange of information with the Prefectures, the regional and national civil protection, the firefighters, the police forces and the municipal administrations. All the Anas teams in the area have been mobilized for safety and traffic interventions”.
