Meteo, the expert: "Ciaran among the strongest cyclones ever seen, when winter arrives"

Online Desk:

Storm Ciaran hits Italy. “Even very intense phenomena are expected – explains 3B Meteo – which could result in cloudbursts in Liguria, especially in the Levante, Versilia, Lunigiana, Garfagnana, Verbano, the Alps and high plains of Lombardy, Trentino, upper Veneto and Friuli VG with local rainfall peaks of 100/150mm”. All eyes therefore focused on the next few days, where the bad weather will give no respite. This was also confirmed by  Antonio Sanò , founder and director of the iLMeteo.it website  . In reference to Ciaran, the expert defines it as  “a truly very powerful storm which at 7 this morning reached Normandy in France where gusts reaching up to 200 km/h were recorded. When these speeds are reached the storms they can already be considered hurricanes , but it is not appropriate to call them that because when they enter the mainland they lose intensity”.

Reached by Repubblica, the expert explains how storms are born, recalling that they form “during the autumn period in the oceans because the earth is cooling at high latitudes while the seas are still warm after the summer. When cooler air descends latitude, cyclones form which on the oceans can be wider, deeper and more powerful like hurricanes. The warmer the sea, the more hurricanes are possible.” However, Ciaran is ” one of the strongest cyclones “. And soon, in the next few hours, it will hit Italy.

Result? Two things. “The cyclone upon entering will simultaneously blow north of Corsica and hit eastern Liguria and upper Tuscany at 90 km/h. But during the night on the Adriatic, a sirocco wind will hit Venice, the Grado Lagoon and Trieste, in Friuli-Venezia Giulia. It’s not the Bora, it’s a southerly wind.” But not only. According to Sanò’s forecasts, “during the night the disturbance will descend to the South, hitting Lazio, Campania and Abruzzo. Here too, maximum attention must be paid to the coasts, especially on the coast of Rome, Latina, there will also be storm surges in Gaeta”. The sea will therefore “swell a lot, waves of 7 meters are expected in the Cinque Terre area and at least 3 meters on the Adriatic front, there is a danger of flooding in Venice and Friuli, a lot of attention must be paid to the coasts”. So winter will arrive for half of Italy. If, in fact, “there will be 4 degrees in Milan and freezing temperatures in Aosta and Bolzano, in the South the temperatures will rise, in Palermo 25 degrees are still expected”.
